    WELCOME to Saints AP Biology! 

    Attached to this post is a PDF file of the summer assignment's for AP Biology.  (Click the title of the post and scroll to the bottom to download or view the file.) Please read through the entire packet and contact Mr. Eberhard with any questions.  (Contact information for Mr. Eberhard is in the packet.)  There are basically two projects or tasks to complete before school resumes on September 05, 2017.  If you manage your time and plan ahead, the work load should be quite reasonable and manageable - YES you should still be able to enjoy your summer!

  • Registering for Mastering Biology for 2017-2018

    Attached to this post are step-by-step directions for registering for our class' online textbook and the accompanying resource called Mastering Biology.  Mastering Biology is fantastic interactive resource that strongly supports student learning.  A portion of your out of class work will be completed and submitted through Mastering Biology.  You should set up your account by Friday, June 23!  This will give you access to our online textbook over the summer in case you need it as a resource.  More information on how the mastering biology program will be provided the first day of class.

  • "Spring Break" Read a Book for Extra Credit

    Above are images of the books eligible for the "Spring Break Extra Credit Reading"
    • Select the book that most interests you and obtain a copy 
    • Read the book over the next several weeks
    • Complete the 2-page written response that will record your reactions to reading the book  (this document will be attached to this post by March 25)
    • This is an OPTIONAL assignment!
    The final response to your book will be due by 11:59 pm on FRIDAY, APRIL 15, 2016!

    Monday (3/21)
    (1) Read 18.1 and/or watch video lecture links and complete BEG #2 Regulation of Gene Expression #1-7 – Prokaryote Gene Regulation in your BILL
    (2) Complete the POGIL – Prokaryote Gene Regulation (Operons)

    Tuesday (3/22)
    (1) Read 18.2-18.4 and/or watch video links and complete BEG #2 Regulation of Gene Expression #8-11 – Eukaryote Gene Regulation in your BILL
    (2) Complete the Post-Lab for the Bacterial Transformation lab

    Wednesday (3/23)NOW DUE on Tuesday (3/29)
    (1) Watch the HHMI Stickleback Short Film – Evolving Switches; Evolving Bodies
    (2) HHMI Stickleback – Virtual Lab – Complete Tutorial #1 and Experiment #1: Analyzing Fish From Lakes – Print the PROGRESS page when you finish 
    (3) Use the ADVANCED Student Worksheet and complete Questions #1-27 as you work through the lab – the student worksheet can be printed directly from the HHMI Stickle Back Lab page

    Thursday (3/24) -  DUE on Tuesday (3/29)
    (1) Epigenetics – Watch the You Tube video from Nova - Ghost In Our Genes(Link is on class web page)
    (2) TYPE a ONE-TWO PAGE written response to the film (do NOT attach in BILL) - in your response dicuss the THREE biological claims made in the film you found most interesting, why you found them interesting, and what eveidence was presented to support each of these claims.  Separate into THREE separate paragraphs! 
    (3) Using the Utah Genetics website complete the packet for the Epigenetics Module found on our class web page

    Friday (3/25) – NO SCHOOL 
    Monday (3/28) – NO SCHOOL 

    Tuesday (3/29)
    (1) Read CH 20 and/or watch the video lecture links; answer the questions from BEG #3 – Biotechnology #1-18 in your BILL 
    (2) Post-Lab Restriction Enzyme Digestion of DNA – Complete the packet you received for this lab!

    Wednesday (3/30) - This will NOW be done in class on FRIDAY - DUE when you return from Spring Break if you do not finish in class on Friday!
    (1) Work through the HHMI Bacterial Identification Lab and COMPLETE the student worksheet as you work through the virtual lab - the worksheet can be downloaded from the HHMI web page for the Bacterial Identification Virtual Lab

    Thursday (3/31) – EB at NSTA - TEST will take place after Spring Break - no earlier than Tuesday (4/12)
    (1) Study for Unit Exam MC on Friday 
    Exam covers Genes to Proteins (17); Regulation of Gene Expression (18); Biotechnology (20); and Epigenetis

    Friday (4/01) – EB at NSTA / SPRING BREAK
